How these prices are computed

Chicagoland dataset 2026-06 · 514 completed exterior projects · Western Suburbs of Chicago

Source

Every figure comes from the final price of a completed, paid project performed by a licensed, insured 360 Painting franchise. No homeowner surveys, no lead-form guesses, no advertised rates, no contractor self-reports. A project enters the dataset only after the work is finished and invoiced.

What counts as a project

Geography and grouping

The western suburbs of Chicago (Kane, DuPage and Will counties) are one labor and material market, so the Chicagoland price is territory-wide and broken out by scope of work rather than by town. City pages differ in their local evidence: how many completed projects sit in that town, and the housing stock those projects were painted on (U.S. Census ACS, cited on each page). A city page is indexed only when it has at least 10 completed projects; 10 of 25 towns are currently below that bar and are published but not submitted for indexing.

Outside Chicagoland, each 360 Painting territory's page states a range derived from that franchise's own completed projects and quotes, blended with U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics painter wage data at the residential (25th percentile) tier. Each page states its own provenance sentence. Where a territory has no ground truth of its own, only its anchor city is indexed.

Two sources, never blended

Quoted scope ranges come from signed customer bids (514 exterior projects) and are broken out by scope of work, because a full repaint and a trim-only job are different products.

Invoiced actuals come from completed-job invoices in our field-service system (525 residential exterior projects, 2018–2026). Invoices are rolled up to projects: records for the same customer at the same address within 120 days are one project, so deposits, final invoices and card surcharges are summed rather than counted separately. Projects under $1,500 are excluded as touch-ups, along with commercial customers, mixed interior/exterior projects, projects whose text does not identify the service, test records. Invoice text does not reliably separate a full repaint from a deck stain, so invoiced figures pool every exterior scope and are labeled that way wherever they appear. A city's invoiced figures are shown only with 5 or more projects.

Do bids hold? Matching signed bids to their final invoice at the same address within 400 days of signing (282 exterior projects, as of 2026-10-31), the final invoice equaled the bid on the median project (ratio 1.00; middle half 1.00–1.03), and 80% of projects invoiced within 10% of the signed bid.

Franchise-book actuals on network pages

Pages for 360 Painting and Window Gang territories outside Chicagoland carry a second figure drawn from that franchise's own invoiced job records (26 painting locations, 13,435 households, 60,360 jobs; 23 window-cleaning locations, 97,503 households, 330,872 jobs). The grain is the household: Each household's invoiced revenue divided by its job count is that household's average invoiced job; a location's figures are the median and quartiles of those household averages. Because interior and exterior painting, and every window-cleaning visit type, are pooled at that grain, the figure is labeled as an all-work median and is never blended with the scope ranges on the same page. A location is shown only with at least 100 invoiced households and consistent job counts; locations below the household minimum; locations whose job counts are missing or inconsistent with revenue (listed under flagged); dates after the build date are capped; 360 Painting books carry no first-service date. Built 2026-10-31.

What the numbers mean

Update cadence

The Chicagoland dataset is refreshed as completed projects accumulate and carries its dataset date in every page's structured data. Network territory figures are regenerated when a franchise's job history is reloaded.

Privacy

No customer names, addresses or invoice-level records are published. Only aggregate statistics at the city or territory level are released, and only above the minimum sample size.

How this relates to your estimate

The cost pages describe a market. The instant estimator prices your specific home from its address, street imagery and property records, calibrated against the same completed projects.
